Plumbers in Washington

Washington has a quirk that surprises new homeowners: in Seattle and much of the state, the side sewer — the line from your house to the street main — is entirely the homeowner’s responsibility, including the part under the sidewalk. When a 1920s concrete or clay side sewer collapses, the five-figure bill lands on the owner, which is why sewer scopes are near-mandatory in Seattle home sales.

Inside the walls, the older housing stock runs on galvanized that is closing up on the same schedule as everywhere else, and seismic requirements add strapped heaters and shutoff valves to the standard job list. Rain, meanwhile, keeps sump and drainage work steady through the long wet season.

Washington plumbers hold state certificates through Labor & Industries (L&I), and plumbing contractors register with L&I as well. Verified Pro listings will be checked against L&I records.
